Using VNC on Raspberry Pi to send gcode to grbl

Post by pmodiano » Sun Nov 10, 2013 4:10 pm

I wonder if anyone has gotten this to work because it would be the best way forward for me: I would like to liberate my laptop from my basement by putting my Arduino Uno/grbl combined with a WiFi-enabled Raspberry Pi together in an enclosure. Ideally, the Raspberry Pi would be running VNC server so that it could be remoted-into from any PC or tablet in my house -- now also removing a need for a dedicated monitor. So the hope would be that I could just VNC in, open a gcode sender, tell it to load a file from a network drive, tell it to start and then close my VNC client (if I want to).

Has anyone tried something like this?

Here are the instructions to install xrdp. Which is X based remote desktop that you can connect to from a Windows box.

Thank you very much, Bob. I had no idea that I could RDP into my Raspberry Pi (I RDP into everything else). This will save me time!
