Can I make a sketch into an SVG file?

Post by kristenanne77 » Sat Jul 12, 2014 4:29 am

Is there a way to get an outline from a picture (something resembling a black and white sketch) into an svg file?
I was thinking about trying to make a sort of picture etched in wood.

Thanks

Both adobe illustrator and inkscape have convert-to-outline (tracing) tools that can do this. However, depending on the nature of the sketch, you may need to do a lot of mucking around in the trace settings to get what you want, and then a lot of cleaning up after. Both packages also have SVG export options, too.

There is a custom site for this: http://vectormagic.com/home

That said, it doesn't take that long to re-draw most images, and usually the quality is better.
