@ cnc_for_free
I'm of course very happy that you can use the GrblGru simulation for your work. :) And all the more because you already have a lot of experience with 3D projects. I have read on your website http://www.cnc4free.org/ about your recommended program 'gmax'. Very interesting. In the future I would like to do more 3D milling and there is still a lot to learn for me.

Hi there,

Just to say thanks for the site plug... Although it's been quite a while since I updated cnc4free.org... a lot of the info there is generic... and does not change... i.e. even as cnc and graphics software improves.. the basic principles of vectorization, height-mapping using bitmaps, photogrammetry and most of the other topics addressed at the site and associated youtube channel, remain the same. I've had a website update planned for a while... just too busy working on more important things.

re: gmax..

gmax remains relevant... even though it's old... and many will tell you to go for 'Fusion 360' instead....

You can do that.. and some things are easier.. and look prettier etc...but 60 day offline limit without log in... and mandatory scan of your updated work sessions and assets just doesn't sit well with me... Their 'subscription' model serves the company, not the customer. Under NO circumstances does it provide for a secure, permanently 'offline' work-space. Anything happens to Autodesk.... and Fusion goes away... and potentially all your work in it.

gmax, despite it's age, still performs 5 axis work more than adequately... The big restriction for many is you have to know/learn how to use it. This will change in the not too distant future... to more of a 'load-and-code' type approach... as I demo'ed at dropbox... and as a result of having Grblgru to successfully simulate gcode with... this should now happen much sooner....

Until then, with cnc_toolkit and other maxscript addons, gmax remains the only truly free means to perform 5 axis work. Once you have downloaded and registered gmax.. it's there, offline, on your machine.. until YOU want to get rid of it. Same goes for Rab Gordon's cnc_toolkit.... The Consumer constrains the software... not the other way round.. In times like these I know which I prefer.

Thanks again for the site plug... and Grblgru

@Alexmoon,

I have uploaded a new beta version V3.45.13. With this version the code correction with a height map should work again.
Unfortunately I did not have time to test everything in real life. Please let me know if something does not work as you expect it to.

Thanks again for your feedback and help to improve GrblGru. :)

Release notes V3.46.0

In the new version V3.46.0 a new 3D model of a 6-axis robot arm has been added.
It is the WE-R2.4, which was designed by Jeff Kerr at Thingiverse.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3327968

For those who are interested in details about the WE-R2.4, I recommend the very good 3-part documentation by John Lauer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEbJV32GyYU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdmdFIhCo4M
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4o3d7_WZ_DQ

In my video I describe how to integrate the model in GrblGru and bring it to life with macros.
The work showed me once again what a great help a simulation is e.g. when learning GCode.
I would be very pleased if GrblGru could contribute to transfer knowledge about CNC technology.

GrblGru is now also available with Japanese texts. Many thanks to the unknown donor. :)

Have fun with GrblGru

Hi Grblgru,
I have a generic router lathe based on an Openbuilds design similar to the image attached. It does not have a Y-axis,the chuck rotates about the X-axis.
I have the .stl file but lack the skills to create a machine. I tried to attach the file but it is too large.

Would appreciate some help.
Cheers

@dgamble1
Interesting machine. :)
Of course I will help you. If you give me an email address, (maybe via a PM) I will contact you.

Great, thanks Grblgru.
Unfortunately I am new to the board and PM is disabled at the moment. If you send me a PM I should be able to reply and either send you the file or a link. My email is dgamble1.dg@gmail.com

Release notes V3.47.0

in my last video I introduced how to bring robot arms to life with the help of macros.
As a small addition I would like to show that some of the GrblGru CAM functions can also be used.
For example, it is possible to have a DXF or SVG drawing drawn by a robot arm.
And this not only on flat surfaces but also on any 3D objects.

As usual, version V3.47 can be downloaded free of charge from my website.

Have fun with GrblGru :)

Release notes V3.48

after my last trips to the multi-axis robots, I would like to concentrate on the 3-axis milling machines again.
For a long time now, the wish to be able to engrave has been on my list.
Especially the production of inlays is a very attractive task for a CNC machine.

Now that the first tests have been completed promisingly, I have created a new version V3.48,
which you can now download from my website.

The complete range of topics from the 'simple' engraving to the inlay cannot be documented in one video.
Therefore here is the 1st part, in which I introduce the principle of a V-cutter and the new function V_Carve.

Have fun with GrblGru

Hi Maestro!
Thanks a lot!
Where I can to download version V3.45.13?
On the official site, I see only 3.44, 3.48
Regards, Alex.
