Shapeoko 3 with Ubuntu/Linux

Post by adamluna » Wed Jul 01, 2015 4:32 pm

I just grabbed one of the machines I have and installed latest Ubuntu. from there... What do you guys do to start using your machine/communicating with it? I have plugged the usb and doesn't seem to recognize it and the drivers appear to be only for windows and mac.

I'm very new at CNC'ing any help will be greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

For Linux, no driver should be necessary.

You'll just need a Communication / Control program which understands the Carbide Motion micro-controller ID string --- that would be Universal G-Code Sender 1.08 or later:

or bCNC:

probably others as well. See: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/ ... _/_Control

On Ubuntu (and other linux variants) you may need to add your username to the 'dialout' group so you can access the serial port.

If running UGS says "no serial port found" you need to do this. You can test by running UGS with 'sudo'. If that works, add yourself to the 'dialout' group.
