Edward,
Will Carbide Create allow files to be imported or opened so you can use this new 'Beta' tool with files made from other software?

Re: Carbide Create
I'm sort of surprised that it took more than a day for the first CC post to show up in the forum! I've been waiting
To answer your question: Right now, no. We don't have any of the import features implemented. Although file importing is on the feature to-do list, we're working through implementing the tools needed for creating content from within the program first, and then we'll work on getting imports turned on.
General FYI regarding Carbide Create - we are putting out a new release today that addresses all of the bugs our initial beta group uncovered. Now we are working now on implementing the next feature set for another build to be release soon.

"Every machine ships with a license of Carbide Create." Will this include those who have purchased the machine already, or is it only for new purchases?

All Shapeoko 3 and Nomad883 machines that sell after the software is released will receive a license of Carbide Create."Every machine ships with a license of Carbide Create."
Also everyone who bought a Shapeoko 3 or Nomad883 before the software was released will also receive a license of Carbide Create

The program's demo on the site looked well thought out.
You guys are amazing.

Re: Carbide Create
With the text tool in it, it might be nifty to add things like Bold/Italic/Underline (per character). Suggesting that because (from memory), Bold/Italic/etc don't always show up in a font list as separately selectable fonts. eg even though some fonts might list a specific Bold/Italic/whatever variant, not all of them do. Anyway, just a thought.edwardrford wrote:Now we are working now on implementing the next feature set for another build to be release soon.
The program itself looks like it will help new people effectively, and seems like it's off to a good start.

Re: Carbide Create
Text handling features at a minimum:
- separately apply regular, bold, italic and bold-italic
- ability to size characters individually
- ability to adjust individual character placement vertically
- glyph palette for hard-to-type glyphs
Nice additional features:
- ability to adjust leading for paragraphs, also space above and below paragraphs
- individual rotation of characters --- a cool UI for this can be seen in Rightbrain Software's Touchtype.app for NeXTstep (which Adobe bought and then lost the source code to)
- ability to attach text to paths so that it follows along --- like Freehand, not like Illustrator
