Carbide Create Question...

Post by bharbour » Thu Feb 22, 2018 8:52 pm

A bit of background...

I currently use MakerCAM and my CNC machine is a DIY 2'X4' that uses GRBL and an Arduino Uno. Of course, MakerCAM is rather limited, but the upside is that it's simple to use. I'm not sure if it's being supported anymore.

I downloaded Carbide Create but had some questions. MakerCAM will import an SVG and the part is positioned relative to 0,0 the same as the SVG drawing. I noticed that's not the case with Carbide Create. Most of the time 0,0 is the center of the part I want to cut. I wasn't able to get the imported SVG centered on the workspace in Carbide Create.

The other issue is that it's tailored toward the size limitations of certain machines...although the Shapeoko XXL seems as if it would cover the workspace of my machine.

How do I get the part centered in the workspace in Carbide Create? Any plans for creating custom workspaces-machines?

Tnx,

NOTE: I did figure this out...had to make the 0,0 the lower left corner of the part in the SVG.

Great!

Carbide Create will allow arbitrarily large geometry and make toolpaths for anything reasonable --- the size settings for Job Setup only influence the size of stock for the 3D preview --- if you can work around that, you're good to go.

Cool. I've been playing around with Carbide Create and will give it a try on my next project. I like the VCarve aspect.
