Lost with STL files!

Post by franazzo » Tue Dec 18, 2018 10:04 pm

Hi all!
Finally after a few years of owning a shapeoko3 and cutting some simple stuff, I finally would like to get into the 3D carvings. I tried the Vectric free file samples and it works quite fine and I really enjoyed the work.
Now I have ordered some files online and I got the jpeg and a STL file.
My question is - do I need a different software to create a 3D tool path?
I tried to worked in the Vcarve desktop software and it keeps telling me to create a 3D tool path first.
I have attached one of the files that I purchased for your review and perhaps someone can help me out.
Thanks alot !

You will need a 3D CAM tool to take advantage of the STL.

Some Vectric products will accept an STL (and process it as a depth map). Or see:

and

Shapeoko 3XL #0006 w/ Carbide Compact Router w/0.125″ and ¼″ Carbide 3D precision collets
Nomad 883 Pro #596 (bamboo)

Thanks Will,
I found my solution with Vectric.
Some times it takes just a little hint to get to the right track!!
Have a Merry Christmas.
