For nema23 motor

1.pully (bore 0.25")
2.motor mount (Z axis)
3.M5 bolts

Thease parts are needed for nema23 model.
I want a seller to take out the part set for nema23. :D

The only hard to source part is the pulley, luckily the Makerslide store sells it: http://store.makerslide.com/index.php?m ... ucts_id=16

For the Z axis motor mount, I would suggest getting your machine running with Nema17 motors, and design and cut your own. Half the fun of these machines is using them to upgrade themselves. :)

Inventables also sells the 1/4in pulley.

As for the Z axis, theres really no need to have a NEMA23 on the Z axis, it just needs to lift and lower the spindle - not a lot of power needed there. I'm going 23 on X and Y, and 17 on the Z, just to save some work.

There are many different types of pulleys available at SDP-SI. They have metal and plastic pulleys.

I'm not completely clear on the terminology yet, but I think you want 0.080" pitch and .25" belt width. Then choose the diameter of your stepper motor.

I'm guessing the outer diameter will effect the settings needed for the stepper software too but I'm not sure what it needs to be.

There seems to be two versions of the 1/4 inch bore pulley on the MakerSlide store, one with 18 teeth and one with 20 teeth. Is there any reason to choose one over the other? I know the NEMA 17 pulley has 18 teeth, but does the larger 20 tooth version change anything anywhere?

Yes. Since the tooth spacing is the same, more teeth mean a larger wheel, which means more motion along the belt for a single step. I am sure you could calibrate it, but the smaller motion per step would be higher accuracy.

Another fact: 18tooth pulley has more torque than a 20tooth pulley.

This is from the reprap wiki:
... fewer teeth are generally better than more teeth, since a smaller pullet gives both more torque and more resolution. You get more torque because the longer your "arm", the less torque you have (Imagine the load is mounted on an arm the length of the radius of the pulley, the shorter that arm, the easier it is to lift the load), and you get higher resolution, since you have a fixed number of steps per revolution, and a smaller pulley moves a shorter linear distance per step.

Speaking of repraps and belts/pulleys. Check on this page from MendelMax. They recommend GT2 belts/pulleys. GT2 has a round tooth profile. This limits backlash.

Interesting read/discussion between the two links.

The image on this link to Misumi's "Timing Pulley & Belt Overview" comparing XML to GT belts peaked my interest.

Does anyone think it would be of any benefit to switch from the XML setup.
