Re: In the news!
@ImprblConstruct made a Skate Board with his Shapeoko, I shared it as an example of a product made with digital manufacturing and Forbes picked it up and did an article:

Nice job @ImprblConstruct the video and pics you sent were perfect.

"To underscore his point on the lowered cost of doing business, he asked the crowd who was excited about the future of manufacturing. To cheers, he pointed out a member of the audience and just told him, “Congratulations – you’ve just won a mill!”
LOL nice touch Zach
Theres gonna be some great audience participation at your next talk haha

Re: In the news!
I looked at the Forbes article, a nice (but short) write up.
Is there any video of the presentation that Zach made at Compute Midwest?
also (from that Forbes write up):
It wouldn't surprise me that it (the photo to CAD app) was already discussed here ... somewhere, just cant find it.

Anyone know what app Zach was talking about? But now, with a free app for your phone,
you can take a bunch of photographs of an object and the app will give CAD specifications.
Those specs can then be used to 3-D print.

Thanks @dointhangs »
I "google'd" for the key words "Photo to CAD", and it returned lots of CNC related hits for Raster to Vector
A search for "Raster to Vector" on the ShapeOko site had one hit ... BobCad related.
Good thing I got in on Al's BobCad/Cam V24 Free seat offer.
If i can keep my computer from crashing the boot files on my HD,
I'll try the BobArt and BobCad software ... real soon now

I viewed the first link (a vimeo video):
A sandstone block built from lego, blending real objects with 3d prints
from Greg Petchkovsky 5 months ago ...
very "cool", but was wondering how much Agisoft Photoscan would set me back ...
one of the comments answered that, although verifying the actual cost is always a good idea ...
in it the author claims:
...
Ahhh .. Possibly he was referring to the "Educational License" (not for commercial use) for $59

The instructables link is also interesting as I have a instructables account and can download the .pdfBill Alexander 2 days ago
Agisoft Photoscan seems to cost $3000.... highway robbery. This is epic though.
in it the author claims:
So I think a check or google on Agisoft Photoscan is warrented, hopefully its not ... $3KAgisoft Photoscan is easy to use, and not terribly expensive.
There are also some free alternatives, ScannerKiller, and 123d Catch.

Re: In the news!
I think Zach must have been referring to 123D Catch from Autodesk. They have an IOS version, also desktop and web-based, all free. It seems to work pretty well based on their gallery. I played with it over the weekend but didn't have enough Photos to put anything together.

Re: In the news!
Congratulations!
Typo in the page title though ---``seels'' should be ``sells'' (in the abbreviated teaser form of the story):
<title>Inventables seels Shapeoko, an automated milling machine for your desktop - Manufacturing News - Crain's Chicago Business
</title>
Any chance of a transcript?
