I found an excellent and inexpensive V bit
I have been looking for a good V bit for some time.
I have tried bits from many of the normal manufactures: Frude, Oldham, and Bosch to name a few.
All of them are listed as 90 degree and none of them are.
A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across this bit from Amana tool at Tools Today:
http://www.toolstoday.com/p-6015-in-tec ... r-bit.aspx
I used it for the first time yesterday and it was amazing.
It has an insert that can be used on all four corners so it is like 4 bits for the price of one.
The replaceable inserts run $3.00-$5.00. So it should be very cost effective.
I can not speak to the longevity of the insert but looking at the results in a piece of maple I think it will be pretty good.
If you are looking for a V bit I can recommend this one!

You really only need one and a couple of the replacement cutters.

If you are looking for a V bit I can recommend this one!
How do you mount this massive shaft in a DeWalt 660 which can take only 1/8 or 1/4 bits?

I am not sure where the link takes you but it takes me to a bit with a 1/4" shaft.Aaron Seltzer wrote:Me too, but I must be dense tonight...Improbable Construct wrote:I have been looking for a good V bit for some time.

I used it to mill a quote on the handle of one of my custom mash paddles.dataway wrote:Improbable Construct could you post a picture of the results you had with this Bit that would be much appreciated.

It was a rush order and I packed it up and shipped it without taking any pictures.
I will see if I can whip something up in the next day or two.

Re: I found an excellent and inexpensive V bit
The one in my store currently was done with a $40.00 bit from Frude.
It was not 90 degrees. It left small divots in the corners.
Most people probably wouldn't notice if they didn't know what to look for but it bugged me.
The new bit provided a much cleaner cut.
My shapeoko is apart again...
I am extending the Z axis to 250mm and working on traming the spindle.
I hope to get it back together tomorrow.
