6061 alu in Europe?

Post by aarvidsson » Sat Dec 13, 2014 8:37 pm

Can anyone point me to where I might find 6061 sheets in Europe? Preferably not the huge 2x1m sheets, but pieces more like at Inventables?

If you can't find 6061, try 6082 which is very similar but much more popular in Europe.
I have used ebay sellers like this, I'm sure you find some sellers/webshops in Sweden too.

Al,

THAT was interesting. Seems much easier to find 6082 around here, thanks a lot!

Every model airplane shop can order sheets of 200x200 and 200x400 from Aeronaut.

I recently bought a 3mm sheet of 200x200 at my local Hobby Shop for 9,50 EUR. Excellent quality too. They have two different kinds of aluminium, (= Aluminum) No shipping cost too

see http://www.aero-naut.de suche: DUR-ALU
Example: DUR-ALU 400x200x3.0mm Aero-Naut Artikel-Nr.: 776114

I don't know German, but they don't seem to say what alloy it is.

I do, but no, they don't say what alloy it is, or anything at all, really :(

When you tap on the Aeronaut plate it gives a clean high sound where standard half hard aluminium has a low sound. I use it for sturctural parts in my airplane. It is easy to machine, the material does not stick to the cutting tool like soft aluminium does.

On the German Wiki I found an explanation that Dural is 5 times harder and stronger than regular aluminium. It definately feels that way. Without doubt I would use it for a gantry.

Here is a website (in german) where they sell industry leftovers (restplatten) for hobby users, the material (werkstoff) description is added so you can look it up. Small enough for us Cheap and reasonable on shipping cost.

Betriebsruhe is winter closing so you have till January 4th to work on your german knowledge, Google translate may help you out. Shopping kart is warenkorb and Sonderangebote the sale of the day,
