Stupidity high shipping to Australia on shapeoko 3 preorder.

Post by gwpt » Tue Dec 30, 2014 9:01 pm

At over half the price of the unit $475 postage is just ridiculous. :o :(
Any cheaper options? Like sea mail.
We have to wait for months anyway to get it...

PLEASE consider a cheaper solution. At this price it's a bit silly...

What exactly costs that much to ship to Australia? In other words, what is the "unit" you mention?

That does seem incredibly high and I've shipped a couple of small things to Oz in the past. Are import duties included in your shipping estimate?

When I went to do my preorder for the shapeoko 3
That is the extra for postage. (No other fees that I can tell, just postage)

I assume this is express courier or something like that.

Don't know about you guys but that reason I was looking at the kit was to save money... So sea mail may be more appropriate!

Moderators? Any chance of a cheaper option? Please?!?!

To be fair, the SO3 is a larger and heavier machine than the SO or SO2.
Weight is one issue, of course, but it's the long rails that's the big problem. A lot of shippers want extra if the package is over 2' or so.

But according to USPS, a 25lbs package hould get to you for about US$191.
(As long as it's no longer than 36" )
A 30lbs package is US$220

Sorry to bump this...

but is it possible for one of the admins/shapeoko people to at least comment on this?

I would love the product but that postage makes it not worth it, and as mentioned by others, a quick quote on USPS showed it was less than half price..

Thanks
Guy

Hello everybody!

I'm new to the forum and I am also looking into buying a Shapeoko - and the question is of course 2 or 3?

I live in Europe so I'm also affected by the crazy shipping rate. So I contacted Edward through the Carbide3D email and he was so kind to give me the exact size and weight of the box: Weight: 45lbs Size: 18" x 24" x 10”.

Shipment to Europe from Bongo is calculated for me around $190, so it might be worth...

HTH,

Francesco

That's nuts. Any other shipping options?

Instead of posting on the forum here, send an email to support@carbide3d.com - you are much more likely to get a response.

The mods on the forum are not connected in any way to Carbide3D.

My SO3 arrived to Switzerland through Bongo. In the end it was indeed significantly cheaper (around $400 but including all import taxes, so maybe $250 for the shipment only). I mean, it's not really cheap (and it was higher than my initial estimate because the shipped machine was heavier than Edward's estimate) but it did save me a few bucks. And the service was good.
