Wooden Gear Clocks

Post by clockit » Thu Jan 15, 2015 7:38 am

There was quite a bit of interest in an Excel spreadsheet that I build to calculate gear specifications for building a wooden gear clock. I posted it in the original thread but thought that I would post it here in a new thread so that others that may be interested can download it.

I'm sure that most of you that are interested in wooden gear clocks have heard of Clayton Boyer, the guru of wooden gear clocks. For those that aren't, here is a link to his site: http://www.lisaboyer.com/Claytonsite/Claytonsite1.htm On his site you can purchase dxf clock plans as well as his book on clock design and theory, it's very helpful for understanding the elements in building a wooden gear clock from scratch.

As far as gears, after I calculate my gear sets I usually draw and save them as a DXF file in a free program called GearDXF, it can be downloaded here: http://www.forestmoon.com/software/GearDXF/

good luck and if you have any questions, just holler at me...

Building a wooden clock is one of my CNC goals!! Thanks for posting...
No longer have a Shapeoko, but use a machine of my own design...

That is some amazing work. I guess I'll have to append that to my CNC bucket list, too.
