HAHA... I wonder if some one at Dewalt or Amazon is anticipating the release of the SO3

Re: How to prepare for Shapeoko 3 - New to CNC
It would be nice if they were, but we're probably not even a rounding error --- it's really kind of sad how small the hobby / fine woodworking / craftsman market is in comparison to:
- industry
- homebuilding
- cabinet-making
&c.
John Economaki had an interesting writeup on this on his blog a while back: http://www.bridgecitytools.com/blog/201 ... celebrate/
Moreover, rather than searching out on-line for the lowest price, why not instead value one's time and community and just buy the tool (at list price) from a local dealer? For me, the local Makita dealer is a family-owned lumberyard which has been in business since "the recent unpleasantness" (as my Great Aunt Annie Mae named The Civil War) --- see who's around for you --- I always enjoy dropping in at Eberly's.

Re: How to prepare for Shapeoko 3 - New to CNC
There are great CNC resources here for "new to the sport" hobbyists such as myself.
I am in the April group so I have lots of time to get things ready. I have the following in hand at this point:
- DeWalt DWP611
- Super-PID (on a courier truck somewhere)
- Precise Bits ER collet
- A good selection of mill bits
- AND, the Bench below. 48" Wide, 25" deep, 32.5" high, one side - 3 drawer, other side - 1 door. Fit in the only corner I had left in my basement shop.
. . . . The bench weighs a ton and at $12.49 from Salvation Army Thirft Store was less expensive than an end mill!

Did you have to notch it to fit it around the pipe? Or did it fortuitously have that as a (perfect!) feature?

No, I wasn't that lucky. Had to take the jigsaw to it. But not a big deal at all.WillAdams wrote:Did you have to notch it to fit it around the pipe? Or did it fortuitously have that as a (perfect!) feature?

Okay, that's my kind of luck.
Very glad to see the safety glasses and hearing protection ready.

I wonder how many people will be using a Super-PID and how many will manually control the speed
