Any modern digital camera will have a video recording mode. I have seen many You Tubers using an SLR to record their videos. With a close focus or macro lens you can get real close-in detail of your work.reprobubbles wrote:Any suggestion on buying a reasonable price Digital Video Recorder. One of my first projects was a clip with a 1/4-20 nut to attach my phone to a tripod for filming the machine.

Some kind of optical shield is in order I think. It is cheap insurance against flying chips and oil.

new ponoko customers get first product for free. up to like $20 i think... or at least that was deal i got before. i used it to get two 12"x12" peices of really thick polycarbonate. plan on using these as shields myself. they are super thick and polycarbonate is about as good as it gets for see through protection. anybody who hasnt purchased from ponoko before should check that out for blast shield. and i didnt have them cut. just requested raw material so cutting fee doesnt applyJoe_C wrote:Some kind of optical shield is in order I think. Well, I've pretty much claimed my son's Raspberry Pi, so am pretty far down the road of trying to set up my SO3 headless --- anyone else have any other nifty ideas?
Still debating on whether or no I want to look up the hole spacing which Inventables uses on their mount and drill and tap mine to match --- anyone else know of anything which uses that spacing? Any ideas on a better spacing?

I'm kind of lazy, so I would use one of the pre-made R-Pi cases that Adafruit sells. I have an R-Pi sitting here idle so I'm interested in your project.WillAdams wrote:Well, I've pretty much claimed my son's Raspberry Pi, so am pretty far down the road of trying to set up my SO3 headless --- anyone else have any other nifty ideas?

I noticed that the program grbl panel offered an IP connection so I wired up a Ethernet to serial converter and made my Arduino / grbl shield as a local network appliance (because I could). I plan to have a buddy in NZ command the grbl (in the future).

Is there a Wiki that details setting up a Pi for a Shapeoko?

Re: How to prepare for Shapeoko 3 - New to CNC
My machine arrives tomorrow so I am finishing up purchasing everything I need. These are the times I've already bought:
Dewalt Router $120
ear protection $5
digital caliper $15
eye protection. $5
I know I've seen links before but now I can't find them. Can somebody share links to a place to buy end mills. Also, if somebody can share a link to what type of collet i should purchase for the router.
Any other equipment I should purchase?
