OctoPi With S3?

Post by derbytimer » Wed Mar 18, 2015 11:31 am

I use OctoPi with my 3D printer, which ends up being a really nice solution for 3D printer operation. Basically it gives me web based control and monitoring of jobs on the printer, at very low cost vs. a dedicated computer.

I know there was a code fork of OctoPrint a while ago with a focus on CNC, but it's not clear it's an active project today.

Since OctoPrint is really just a gcode sender, should it work with a S3? Does it work with S2? Do people use here use it?

Yes, any G-code sender will work w/ the Carbide Motion Board on the SO3: http://www.shapeoko.com/forum/viewtopic ... 380#p42380

There was some discussion here: http://www.shapeoko.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1825

and some on reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/shapeoko/commen ... print_and/

What do you think should be added to the wiki ( http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/ ... _/_Control ) on this?

There is Andrew Hodel's GrblWeb. It's a web-based Grbl sender that runs on an RPi. I've never used it on a machine, but it seems like a nice solution. Nor do I remember if a camera is supported either. He's a pretty busy guy but I can try lobbying for it, if it isn't.

I love Octoprint and would love to see a working port that is publicly available.

That being said, I also seem to remember John Lauer saying that you can run serial port JSON server on the pi, and connect to it from any browser running chilipeppr. I've been quite impress with Chilipeppr compared to the other g-code senders.

Universal Gcode Sender has a simple web interface, I've considered extending the web API that's implemented so that UGS can use Chilipeppr as a web GUI and/or Chilipeppr can use UGS as a com server. The SPJS commands don't look very complicated.

Neat!

One observation on your pendant control layout --- why not add some space in-between the X-Y-diamond and the stack of the Z+/Z-? I think it'd look better and be less confusing.

If anyone wants to take a stab at improving/extending the pendant UI take a look, I'd take pull requests. If you want to go crazy and need some help extending the web server I can help with that.

I don't do a lot (any) web development, all of this was contributed by Jvabob from our community about a year ago. From my limited HTML/JS understanding it looks like simple html and javascript. The current design isn't reactive either so there's unused space on the right side of the screenshot, it would get worse on a tablet.
