Oh. Good. That's a relief.

Okay, here's what I trimmed:
Shapeoko XL has a cutting area of 33" (X) by 17.2 (Y)
Shapeoko XXL has a cutting area of 33" (X) by 33.5 (Y)

We'll have upgrade kits for existing customers and full kits for new customers available. We'll probably open up pre-orders in a few weeks.
FWIW, I find the nomenclature a bit confusing at the moment and suspect the Y-axis value for the XL is wrong, and wish that it were easier to tell which axis was upgraded how much (or maybe I'm mis-remembering what was suggested previously as being better than it was).

Why does it appear to be wrong? The Y-Axis doesn't change on the XL from the original Shapeoko 3 Y-axis travel length of 17.2". Only the X-axis changes. The XL is on the right in the photo.

From the included pic it appears right. It's an extra wide but not long XL.

Although 33" is a pretty odd number to come up with. Wouldn't the full 36" cutting width be more standard for us in the US?

Strange to measure travel distance now, when it's always been cutting area previously.

FWIW, there was a poll and discussion at: http://www.shapeoko.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5652 --- looks like over 20% of the people will be happy to start (this includes the 5% happy w/ the 16x16 original) --- could've gotten roughly a fourth if a third option, which expands along the Y-axis instead were also available.

So is there a chance for a shapeoko xxxl (4'x4' or larger) in the future or are these going to be the only expansion options?

Sounds like larger units will come later: "One thing that we want to make clear is that our machine was designed to be expanded to this size and beyond. Our extrusions will not twist or bend at this size. (Other manufacturers have had trouble expanding their machine to this size.)"

So, was it or was it not for the public?

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has been waiting on updates as tho when we will no longer be disqualified due to larger needs. :-)

For the public. It was an email to a list of people signed up for information about the Nomad and SO3 — I’m easily confused sometimes.

It's ok... the older I get, the more confused I get... I miss knowing everything. LOL

It's so weird though. I thought for certain that I was signed up for updates on SO3. :-/
