Help with locating the proper term... Locking angles
I am trying to find some information on how to design something. As most of us are doing this as a hobby, sometimes coming up with the correct terminology... is the hardest part in finding out how to make the part. So... here I am stuck. Can anyone tell me what you would call this kind of intersection is? EDIT: This is what locks the sticks in place on a pan/tild video head, if that helps.

Quite a lot of googling tends to point out to those ridges being detents, specifically, radial detents. Not very sure, though.

I've assembled things which used parts like that, but can't find a useful search term for them to save my soul.
ISTR locking alignment hub being what they were called in at least one set of instructions, but that just brings up 4WD parts.
Please let us know when you find them --- it's going to bug me until we figure it out.
Here: there seem to be some parts of this sort inside this: http://www.carrlane.com/catalog/index.c ... 285355435A

It might be called a rosette. I can not confirm though.

Joe C, I think you are onto something... Great job!
@ Will, exactly, It's been bugging me for a while now that I could not find the 'ratcheting knobby thing'. I have used these forever and I have been trying to find something that might put me on the right track to make my own (for the slider project). I am thinking about adjustable legs, and later, working on more parts for my shoulder mounted stuff.
Edit: More Images

I thought they were teeth, similar to the teeth on plastic poker chips.

Getting lucky, I think I stumbled into what it is called. It is a Hirth Coupling as far as I can tell.

That seems to be it! Good job.
