HelloWorld half size. No dip switches

Post by ggrif » Fri Jan 08, 2016 6:14 pm

Got my S3 #1212 up and running, whoopee!

Dumb question, why did Hello world print half size? All I could find in the forum/at Carbide 3D were references to resetting dip switches to fix this issue. My S3 controller doesn't have dip switches.

Thanks

In that case, the settings in Grbl for $100, 101 and 102 are wrong.

Either halve or double them as appropriate.

Please touch base w/ support@carbide3d.com so that they can be aware of this and get things fixed up at their end.

Has the controller changed? Or is this the Sparkfun controller?

The controller changed a while back. I got version 2.2 of the Carbide Motion controller in September, and it had the DIP switches removed.

It makes sense that they removed the switches. One set was to support NEMA 17 motors, which is not an option anymore. The other set was to change microstepping. I saw at least three reports of flaky switches on the forum, although twiddling the bad switch a few times fixed it. Since there's very little downside to 1/8 compared to 1/4, it made sense to remove those too, and eliminate a source of confusion, improve reliability, and reduce cost. Note that this would not make sense in a controller sold on its own, like the Stepoko; it makes sense only because the Carbide Motion board is available only with a specific machine with specific motors.

Okay, I’ve updated the knowledgebase article on this:

http://docs.carbide3d.com/article/45-ma ... -half-size

(And added a note/link on the Hello World page)
