Carbide3d 1/8" collet for Dewalt DWP611 announced.

I just caught wind of this on Apollo's Instagram. It's $25. Apparently they had them custom made so you dont have to shell out $83 for a precisebits collet.

Good price and great to have another option available.

I use the Elaire collets on mine and have been very happy especially for the price.

How is this different from a $10 1/8" collet off amazon?

The inexpensive 1/8" units I’m familiar w/ are just a sleeve w/ one or more slits in them which allow a stock 1/4" collet to hold the collet adapter and that to hold the endmill.

I used one from MLCS w/ my Harber Freight router and it worked well enough, but I wasn’t wild about the additional potential point of failure, nor the likelihood that it was inducing more runout.

The Carbide3D unit is like to the Elaire collet, which is a replacement for the stock one (they come in various sizes, incl. 1/4" for a direct replacement of the original). There was a lengthy write up in the thread on the Makita collet

http://www.shapeoko.com/forum/viewtopic ... 45&p=26731

which included testing which demonstrated that the precision collet afforded better cutting — Carbide 3D’s unit should be similar, and adds the convenience of a second nut, making for easier changing of 1/8" endmills to 1/4" router bits.

This looks so much like the Elaire collet I have that I'm wondering if they're just rebranding.

That was my first thought after seeing the two but I was giving Carbide the benefit of the doubt that they are not just buying and marking up a product rather than having us buy cheaper from the source ;)

AFAIK, Elaire doesn’t include a nut, so that would make up for the difference.

Also, buying from Carbide 3D is a big win in terms of shipping if one is buying other things from them.

My Elairs all came with nuts. It's exactly as pictured.

Totally understand buying from one source for machine and collets and if anyone is getting a Shapeoko I highly recommend getting the 1/8" collet. You'll get a lot of use of it especially if you plan any finer detail work.
