Up grade to Cm4

Post by Jeff » Mon Apr 16, 2018 10:33 am

I want to up grade to CM4 and the new GRBL
So my question is this ,I have seen plenty post about errors messages and things not running right
Are these real problems or user arrow .
I have no problem with how my XXL runs now.
Just would like to have the ability to change speeds on the fly.
How much trouble is it to install also
Have had my unit 8mos now
And are the touch pads ready yet.

Please send in any problem files along with a description of how they were made and notes on the errors to support@carbide3d.com

The Probe should be available real-soon-now

That did not answer my question.
My unit runs great now with no problems.
I do not want to down load something that I am going to have problems running jobs.

It works well for most folks.

The notable difficulty is Error 33 which is usually caused by doing CAM in Autodesk Fusion 360 in Imperial measure.

There's been one report of large files from ArtCAM which hang up, but it's not replicable.

I used Vectric Vcarve Desktop for one project (a bit of metalwork which needed the V carving depth limited, and smoother toolpaths than are afforded by Carbide Create) and it worked fine --- haven't revisited it since.

I upgraded to Carbide Motion 4 when I got my Probe --- it's a little slow / clunky and I preferred CM3 for its light, elegant appearance and faster performance, but works well.

Hi jeff,

I tried CM4 couple months ago and I encounter serious jogging issues.
e.g I cannot switch between mm/inches or the machine doesn't move to the exact coordinate.

Having said that, it could totally be me didn't install things properly and I didn't spend the time to troubleshoot it.

So it's a hit and miss.. but I say it's a hit for most people.
For me, it's a miss.

My opinion is if you cannot afford downtime on your machine, then stick with your current set up for now (like me). If you have the time then yes go try CM4 :D, it's great when it works.
