Bosch PR20 Colt - Anyone try it?

Post by damagi » Fri Feb 08, 2013 8:57 pm

Just curious if anyone has tried using one of the Bosch Colt PR20 routers for their spindle? Feedback?

Thanks

My local big box store had one on clearance today. It didn't have its box or collet so I passed on buying it.
I had it in my had though and it looked like it would work well. It did not weigh to much and loos easy to mount.
At twice the price of the DW660 and only .6 amps more power I don't know if it would be worth it.
Shapeoko #Classified some of the bolts may be original parts.

Shapeoko 2 # 3926 not stock

Isn't that the router model favoured for use in the CNC Shark?

Yep:

http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=19441

(1) CNC Shark Routing System, with New 6.5 Software
(Rockler SKU: 49200) (Reg. Price: $2,899.99)
(1) Bosch PR20EVSK Colt VS Palm Router Kit
(Rockler SKU: 24918) (Reg. Price: $124.99)

For comparison, jzhvymetal just mounted a Dewalt DWP611 http://www.shapeoko.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1222.

That's why I picked it up. I have another cold which I put in my Micro Fence setup, so it seemed natural to pick up the second one. It was marked down, plus I used a 20% off harbor freight coupon to get it down to a reasonable price.

It ends up being about $68 after tax, which isn't all that much more than DW660 after the markdown and coupon. Its also variable speed, so that's kinda nice too.

Good to know that the shark uses it, that clearly means it does well enough. Wonder if the rockler dust shoe would be easy enough to adapt then...hmmm

I already have a Porter Cable 7310 trim router (5.6 Amp, 3/4-Horsepower, 30k rpm) but since it's single speed I'm hesitant to use it and the Bosch PR20 looks ideal.
Has anyone actually tried it out on a Shapeoko yet?

My personal reservation on the Colt is from the precisebits.com case study here.

Specifically, the last line:
Update October 1, 2012 - Recent reports from customers and forum posts indicate that the proportion of compatible Colt routers has fallen to below 50%. Before you commit to a purchase, take time to test the router as detailed above to make sure it will work in your application.
