Help me choose DWP611 or Makita RT0700CX

Post by jameslee522 » Sat Jan 17, 2015 9:50 pm

Stuck on a few things.

1. I was set on the makita until I read about the collet only clamping at the bottom. Is this going to be a problem when cutting aluminum?
2. In the spindle wiki it list the DWP611 as 71dp. What is the Makita. I have read that the DWP611 is louder. But by how much?
3. Weight. Wiki shows the Makita at 3lbs and the DWP611 at 4.1 including the base. How much does it weigh with out the base? And is 4 lbs to much for the shapeoko?

How much does the weight of the spindle effect your work and how?

The Makita body weighs about 1300 g, not including the base and power cord.

Get the Makita. $20 cheaper which you can then spend on a $24 collet from elaire. Also, get the makita at home depot and get the extended warranty. Proceed to beat the balls off of it then get a new one if/when it breaks.

I have this exact setup and don't regret it, not even for a second. The variable speed control is fantastic for cutting aluminum, which is all I really do (rarely some HDPE and some PFTE). I have no idea what 'clamping at the bottom' even means. How could you even tell? You'll see more error in mechanical stress than runout with a stock SO2.

Food for thought: http://www.precisebits.com/products/equ ... !!Kit!!!PG!!! Don't get me wrong, their stuff is AWESOME. But that collet kit is half the price of the DWP611.

the Dewalt 611 motor/housing/electronics weighs 3.3 lbs.

Keep in mind you don't need to buy the whole router - unless you also want to use it as a router - you can just buy the motor if you only want to use it as a spindle - look on amazon DNP611 is only $79.

As for the collet only clamping at the bottom. That is just something I read. Which one is louder?

Think I'm leaning on the mikita again.

I know nothing about the DWP611 I have the Makita 0701 I have had mine since I got the my shapeoko. I purchased the 1/8 collet to go with it. I have never had any issues with bits slipping ever. It has been Rock solid for me so far. It runs very cool even with my last run it ran 8 hours strait and was still cool when I shut it down.
