Chris,
I had previously written:

I had previously written:
I found the quote I was thinking of, but I had remembered it backward. Here's the original quote (emphasis mine):JPeterG wrote:Also, I thought I read on one of the forum topics that the RT0701C router in Europe and the UK has a different collet holder than the U.S. version, and that U.S. sized collets may not work in it. I can't find that quote at the moment... can you confirm whether that's true?
Bottom line is, it looks like the custom collet should work for you if you purchased an RT0701C in the U.S. or U.K. but not in Europe.cvoinescu wrote:Fortunately, the Makita RT0700C (regardless of which bases you opt for) comes with a 6.35 mm (1/4") collet in the UK. Unfortunately, I have called Makita and they confirmed that the units sold in other European countries have a different motor armature, collet seat and collet nut, so metric (6 mm and 8 mm) collets are not compatible with the imperial (6.35 mm) unit sold in the UK, and vice-versa. The 8 mm collet is a bit of a joke, indeed, but the 6 mm and 6.35 mm ones are good. No 3.175 mm (1/8") collet is available from Makita, and I haven't been able to find one that fits without modification. Some generic air grinder 1/8" collets almost fit.
Peter.

Re: Custom 1/8" Collet for Makita RT0701C Trim Router
It's very kind of you to check; luckily here (in the land of measuring distance in miles and volume in litres) the Makita router I own came with the 1/4" and 3/8" collets, and thankfully not the scary metric ones which would have caused me all sorts of headaches. I already suffer - I work as a petrophysicist and cover a region where the unit systems can be strictly metric, strictly imperial, or a crazy mix of bothJPeterG wrote:

Peter.

I actually own the previous RT0700C model, but the only difference that I know of between the two is that the bases have slightly different layouts for the template guides. The RT0701C has 'industry standard' mountings now.
I'm unaware of any changes other than that, I do not believe that the motor housing changed in any way. Perhaps someone does know of something, but I imagine my imperial collets are the same as the ones in question.
Thanks again for checking

Chris

I just bought a Makita today
I "Might" be interested for probably 2, however I think postage to australia might make it cost a bit to much?

Re: Custom 1/8" Collet for Makita RT0701C Trim Router
I'll stop by the post office tomorrow and try to find out. I can't imagine first class postage for a couple of collets would be a lot, especially relative to the price of the collets themselves. At this time it doesn't look like we'll make either of the price breaks, so we're talking about US $50 if you want two, and I'd imagine postage will be small by comparison.tekadept wrote:I just bought a Makita today

Peter.
EDIT: It looks like we might just make the first price break at 10 units. So the price would be US $17.50 each, for a total of US $35 for a pair.

The RT0700CX, CX2, CX4 etc. are just different kits with the same router -- so yes, it's the same router.

Got you marked down. I'll have to go back and recount tonight to see if we made the first price break. If not, I'll buy a couple extra and then have a couple on hand for the Johnny Come Latelys.cvoinescu wrote:I'll take one too, please (if you make the 10 piece break).
