SVG support --- wiki and forums

Post by WillAdams » Thu Jul 03, 2014 2:13 pm

Okay, I just finished re-drawing the first part for improving the diagrams for better appearance and smaller filesize.

Wanted to post it to the wiki for use on the Parts page, but the wiki won't allow uploading SVGs --- can we enable them there please?

It'd be nice to allow them here on the forums as well, so that one doesn't have to do things like this:

And I re-drew a bunch of parts so as to reduce the size of one of the illustrations for the instructions --- need to add some clipping paths, possibly shading and fix the fonts, then add in the parts list and interactivity, but here's what things look like fresh out of Freehand:

It looks as if we just need to add svg to the allowed extensions:

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgFileExtensions

It seems to work otherwise: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/SVG

This page merely argues for it: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Inline_SVG_use

Here are step-by-step instructions though: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Im ... ration#SVG

and it seems there's a cool option for editing directly on the wiki: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SVGEdit which I think would make for some interesting possibilities for projects, esp. w/ jscut being able to load files from web pages.

TW Foreman got this turned on for the wiki, so we can now do things such as:

Image

Which is rendered from: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/ ... 196-01.svg

Thanks!

l'll see what I can do about posting the balance of the parts images. It should be possible to post .svg CAM source files as well.
