Re: ACME screw upgrade for Shapeoko Z-Axis
Hey IC,
Would it be possible to have like a mix-and-match ACME screw upgrade kit?
IE I already have the acme rod and nut and just want to get the bearings/bracket. I'd also want to get the parts for the belt driven nema17 to get more clearance.
Is that something the site can support?
Alternatively I can probably cut the plates myself given a BOM but I appreciate this is something you sell and you might not be able to give that out

Hi IC,
I have a very similar problem. I need a new ACME thread because the one I have is bent and I know this will not work with the NEMA 17 belt drive that I just purchased. check out the video

Re: ACME screw upgrade for Shapeoko Z-Axis
Hello IC,
I received my upgrade kit last night and I seem to have a problem. It appears the machined ends on the jack screw are a bit too long. When i assemble the top and bottom brackets (bearing flanges both pointing towards each other) that the brackets arent parallel. for example if it tighten the top bracket, the screw spins like butter. the bottom bracket will be canted downward at an ever so slight angle and will not sit flush to the maker slide. if i even hand tighten it down to where it starts to become flush and parallel it will start to bind on the first thread of the screw against the bearing. My shapeoko2 is completly stock. My Z maker slide is 200mm but i havent measured the screw and its machined edges for proper length yet. I will also be checking the brackets to make sure they are not bowed tonight
Any other ideas on what i should be looking for. I really dont want to shim it if i dont have to

Re: ACME screw upgrade for Shapeoko Z-Axis
I'd thought that the instructions include trimming off the excess length? I know I had to do that on one end of my upgrade for my SO1.

The problem isnt the machined ends length. The problem is that the fully threaded part appears to be too longI'd thought that the instructions include trimming off the excess length? I know I had to do that on one end of my upgrade for my SO1.

I can not imagine that the screw is too long. They are made on a precision cnc lathe. Are you using shim washer on the screw? If so take it off. Can you post or email me some pictures of your setup? I may be able to spot the problem.

not using the shim washer. Ill take some measurements and post some pics when i get home
Re: ACME screw upgrade for Shapeoko Z-Axis
Ok I found the problem. The bearing on the included flange is damaged. The metal seal in the bearing is deformed like the press used to seat it was off center
