Re: Shapeoko 3 - 4' x 4' - Prototype #1
Just sell me 2 five foot sections thats all i need to just expand the y. It would be super easy to make new straps and extend the wires.

I was just looking at the pictures again and noticed just how thin the steel gantry plates are starting to look compared to everything else. It's probably not going to be long until they'll need another upgrade, too.

Anyone else remember the poem, “The Wonderful One-Hoss Shay/The Deacon’s Masterpiece”?
Balancing the strength and weight of all the parts seems similar, but the end result will hopefully be different.

I too echo what many have concerns with space limitations and being able to expand in either X or Y only rather than a complete 4x4 area. For most, being able to cut 2x4, effectively 1/4 sheet of plywood is going to be satisfy a large majority of ones looking for expansion over the original S3.
Being able to batch out 4 times the normal on a job really cuts down on the material handling part leaving hands free to be a lot more productive in the shop.

The prototype appears to be coming along nicely. As others have said before, including myself, I'm looking forward to the larger Shapeoko 3 being available.

Hey Edward - Any news to share on the prototype? Everything going as planned or have you ran into issues?

I thought this machine was supposed to be upgraded with only a small amount of parts. I don't think the steppers will even move that thing. I kinda wish I just got an x carve. Really not happy with this "easy upgrade". For the price I could of went with a better quality machine and better mechanics. 3000 can get a lot of CNc. That's 1000 more than so3 and upgrades maybe.
