CMSgt Plaque
Well that didn't work so well
See the chunk of wood missing as my router threw it across the room.... I was ticked to say the least. So I tested out meh color theory anyways and I like the blue/natural combo.
So my question should I buy a plunge ogee bit and do 2 bit changes?
1. Carve
2. Ogee
3. End mill cut
I really don't like doing bit changes on this dang machine because if I am not uber careful turning off the router it kills carbide motion. I have the router on a separate power outlet from the computer and the machine and it still trips it.
Do plunge bits like that work well on these palm routers, any ideas?

Sorry, I don't have any ideas regarding your options for bits. However, user 'jbc' says he has found a solution to the router power-off/carbide motion disconnect. Apparently, there is a tiny power surge (or something) from the DWP611 switch itself. Using a power strip to cut the power instead has fixed it for him. I cannot vouch for it, but it should be easy enough to test.Defy wrote: I really don't like doing bit changes on this dang machine because if I am not uber careful turning off the router it kills carbide motion. How large is the edge profile?
Were you taking it in one pass or 1/8" depth or less passes?

Re: CMSgt Plaque
Routing end grain requires careful consideration of grain and direction of movement of the wood and rotation of the bit.
I’d suggest changing the direction for that portion of the cut and using a shallower pass as LTEPM suggested if you must have the machine make the cut, but it would probably be better to cut the piece out completely, then finish the cut on a router table — router bits w/ special shapes may not be suited for use under machine control, esp. if the CAM tool isn’t aware of their shape, cutting characteristics , &c.

I have had no issues running shape bits on my SO2. When I run the Ogee bit I use 1mm depth passes and slow the speed way down around 300-400 mm/min. I have not seen any chip out running this way, I understand YMMV.
Re: CMSgt Plaque
I am going to try it i'll let you know how it goes
Re: CMSgt Plaque
Tried it and it worked well for the most part. But as I feared I lost zero on the 2nd bit change.
The power strip idea works but I was dialing the speed back before I tripped the surge protector and just instinctively turned the power off on the router and it killed it. I am going to tape up the router on/off so I don't do that again.
also thing my Z belt is too loose. How many teeth is the belt supposed to have? I can't tighten it up any more.

Re: CMSgt Plaque
I believe the correct belt should read 520.

Re: CMSgt Plaque
Some people have had success using a power strip to switch the router on / off.
I had to use a small pry bar to get my Z-axis belt taut enough — mentioned the pitch of the two sides in a post around here.

Yeah mine says 524 so I think I need to get a shorter oneLTEPM wrote:I believe the correct belt should read 520.
