Sheetcam>Mach3> or Sheetcam>Gcode Sender
I understand that Mach 3 uses a parallel port to connect to the shapeoko so if i were to just get a dedicated Desktop and use a parallel port to the machine then that will function fine? I am working on a plasma cutter set up and ive been able to create my .DXF file, import it into sheetcam, import it into Mach 3, I can see the (4th axis code) to tell the plasma when to turn on, but mach 3 is not connected to the arduino board. What other things might i need besides a Desktop if i were to go that route? A separate controller? Currently i just have the USB connection to my pc. I was able to create G code in a program and use a "G code Sender" to actually get the machine to run. I believe that swapping to a Desktop may get rid of some of the interference that many people talk about when it comes to USB anyways. Thanks!

If you decide to go the Mach 3 or LinuxCNC route, another controller option, in addition to those listed in the Wiki would be this one from PMDX: http://www.pmdx.com/PMDX-340
Leadshine also sells a good one, but like the Gecko G540, would need a separate power supply and possibly an enclosure (depending on how neat you want it to look). http://leadshineusa.com/productDetail.aspx?model=MX4660
These are options I'm considering if/when I get the SO3.
