SO3 Control Board V2.1 Capacitor Location?

Post by madhatter » Sun Oct 21, 2018 8:47 pm

I moved my SO3 into a spare bedroom, since it is only going to be doing diamond drag engraving from now on, and it happens to be near a small refrigerator, and last night it disconnected twice when the fridge stopped running. The control board is V2.1, and I watched a video where someone showed where to solder on a 1200uF 50V cap, but it was a different version of board, and I want to put the cap in the correct location.

Should be similar to the Stepoko --- check and see if Github helps?

If not, drop us a line at support@carbide3d.com

I'll give it another shot before I contact support. :-)

Here is a V2.3 board with the capacitor installed.

Here is the V2.1 board like I have, with solder pads in the same location.

Before I put a cap in that location, I just want to double-check to see if anyone else has done it, or been told those are the correct solder pads for the capacitor.

Thanks!

A capacitor that is adjacent to each other with a layer of non-conductive insulating medium sandwiched between them. When a voltage is applied between the two plates of the capacitor, the capacitor stores the charge. The capacitance of the capacitor is numerically equal to the ratio of the amount of charge on one of the plates to the voltage between the two plates. The basic unit of the capacitance of a capacitor is Farad (F). The capacitive element is usually indicated by the letter C in the circuit diagram.
Capacitors play an important role in circuits such as tuning, bypassing, coupling, and filtering. It is used in the tuning circuit of the transistor radio, CD player, and recorder, and it is also used in the coupling circuit of the color TV set, the bypass circuit, and the like.
