I have been thinking about replacing my plastic V-wheels with aluminium ones. (I would machine them myself) I think this should be ok as the rails are hard anodized and I also might consider getting untemperted 6061 (i.e. 6061-O not 6061-t6) or a 2xxx series alloy that is a little bit softer. The goal of this is to remove any rigidity issues that the wheels cause. Any thoughts?

Re: Aluminium V Wheels
Steel wheels were tried, and they quickly overcame the hard anodizing --- I believe the situation is one either wears the wheels, or the rails, or both --- the Delrin works amazingly well for this application (see previous discussions) --- it would be nice if there was a better option, but I can't imagine one.
An alternative to a different material is to add additional wheels --- this was done by some folks for alternative Z-axis designs.
