Anything we can do for covid19?

Post by danmas » Fri Mar 20, 2020 1:00 am

Hiya folks,

I am a newbie with only two projects under my belt. That being said, Elon Musk is making respirators and some guy on reddit is trying to reverse engineer a 1965 design for a fluid breather. Anything we can do? I have a cnc in my basement now. I would imagine some of the experts out there could gin up a couple of ideas for things we could do. Anyone have an idea?

I was asking a similar question - and have been scouring the internet for methods to help. See my post: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11360

Very cool. I imported the svg into carbide create. 22 minutes. Anyone able to do this quickly and post a carbide create workfile? I must be doing something odd.

I thought I could do a lot better than 22min in Fusion360.

The feeds and speeds were taken from Winston's video for material mondays: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiLWI62N5pc

Total machine time is 5 min 30 sec - no where near the professional 1 minute cycle time.

Some assumptions I've made for the following files:
  • You're using a shapeoko
  • you have a 1/8" 2 flute upcut endmill (I'm using the #102)
  • your spindle can do 10k rpm
  • you have 1/4" thick HDPE as your stock
  • the origin of the stock is in the lower left corner (see image)
  • the stock shown is 12" x 12"
Clearly a 12"x12" piece of stock could make more than one shield visor, orienting the visors on the stock will depend on stock sizes, so this toolpath makes just one visor. gcode enclosed. Fusion 360 share: https://a360.co/2RCqyJn
