I may have a solution for the qubd coming very soon. Initial testing show track marks similiar to my own setup and feed quality that looks very promising

Again thanks for all the responses. I have put this on the back burner for now, but an cheap temp controller would be the Velleman MK138. (under $10). It is the same controller that was used on the seemecnc H-1 (http://reprap.org/wiki/Seemecnc_h1)

good find on the temp controller. I have a ta4 pid controller but will be buying two of these to experiment with. I will be printing a full size guitar body for a customer and plan to convert my shap eoko for the project. that and the wife had given me the go ahead to build a much larger nicer shapeoko style mill for cabinet work

The Shapeoko frame itself isn't quite perfect for a high-res 3d printer. In particular, the Z-axis Makerslide is weighted on the top & bottom by the motor & extruder. Unless you've done a truly amazing job stabilizing or just run slowly, this will bounce a little bit during sharp Y movement. Usually that won't be a big deal but it was enough to wreck some of my prints & cause wavy lines in others. I've pretty much abandoned by Qu-bd, and am going to try an extruder setup from SeeMeCNC, this time on a Reprap frame I picked up on eBay.
Shapeoko #384: dual-Y, outside-belt, ACME-Z,1000mm Y, drag chain cable management, insert-nut style base board, 800mw IR laser cutter, & 3d-printing with Qu-Bd & Printrboard.

Then get a Nema 17 bi-polar 2A from anywhere that will sell it for under $20 Shipped

Then get a RAMPS 1.4 board with an Arduino MEGA 2560
If you get this far, reply back and I'll continue with the rest of the steps
