Need help with inlays

Post by woodhobby11 » Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:26 pm

Hello, i recently bought the shapeoko 3 xxl and I want to get into some inlay work. I was wondering if anyone could help me get started of if they know any good tutorials to look at. I am also wondering if its possible to be done on carbide create. Thanks

The community has some notes and links on this at: https://wiki.shapeoko.com/index.php/Car ... ate#Inlays

It can be done in Carbide Create, just requires jumping through some hoops.

I ended up getting vcarve desktop to try and do it there, but for some reason I am still having trouble doing the inlay. I've looked up so many videos on how to do it and it still isnt working. Its making me think that its something to do with my tool settings maybe? Like for offsets is there a specific offset it should be in order for it to fit perfectly?

Since you have VCarve Desktop, have you looked at any of the Vectric online tutorials?

This one is old, but might still be relevant: D07 - VCarve Inlay Technique
This one is on the auto inlay feature: Auto Inlay Toolpath Guide

There is also a write-up on the Carbide3D website: vCarve Inlays with… vCarve Desktop! Details and discoveries
