Using Carbide Create with drag engraver diamond?

Post by thehay95 » Tue Apr 16, 2019 5:52 am

I need to use my S3 (if possible) to engrave some text on some small parts- the text will need to be about 1/8" high and only about 1-3/8" long.

I have a(n admittedly cheap) eBay spring-loaded drag engraving diamond bit which should work- it's just tool marking, really, so I'm not terribly concerned if the engraving isn't super-clean.

The problem is, I'm still very new to Carbide Create, so I figured I'd best look up some tutorials first. I'm not seeing anything specifically about drag engraving, though, so I'm assuming I'd simply need to set it up as if it's cut engraving?

Can anyone recommend some tutorials on doing simple text engraving?

Thanks.

You can do it by just telling CC that your bit is really narrow, like 0.02" diameter, and have it plunge 0.10" (or whatever you think is a good spring load on the diamond tip). If it is not spring loaded, have it plunge a very small amount 0.01" or so and adjust as necessary.
